EDF France Wind and Solar Installations Hit New Highs

International Solar Photovoltaic Network News: Recently, EDF Renouvelables’ wind and solar installed capacity in France reached the 2GW milestone, after the company set a record for onshore wind power installed in France.

The company said it had commissioned nearly 200MW of onshore wind capacity in 2019, with similar-sized projects under construction.

EDF Group and Canadian partner Enbridge have built the 480MW Saint-Nazaire offshore wind farm, which is expected to be commissioned in 2022. EDF said the Fecamp and Courseulles-sur-Mer projects are expected to start next year.

EDF added that it has completed the preparation phase of Plan Solaire, which aims to re-establish the company's leading position in France's solar sector by achieving a 30% market share by 2035.

EDF said it has expanded its fixed land area for ground-mounted solar projects by seven times, to 2,000 hectares. Projects with planning permission have increased fivefold, and projects winning bids in French energy auctions have increased sixfold. At the same time, rooftop solar managed by its EDF ENR subsidiary has also achieved strong growth, accounting for 20% of the market share. Plan Solaire will now enter the strategic deployment phase.

The growth of renewable energy in France is part of EDF’s CAP 2030 strategy, which aims to double the group’s global clean energy capacity to 50GW by 2030.
